Isla Espíritu Santo: an island outing from La Paz
Isla Espíritu Santo is off La Paz in the Gulf of California, in a protected island and marine setting included within the Islands and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California World Heritage property. Its bays, rock formations and wildlife make it a rewarding place for a planned boat outing.
It is a La Paz-area trip, rather than a short cruise within Cabo San Lucas Bay. If you are staying in Los Cabos, allow for the road journey, the boat departure and the return before choosing the rest of your day.

Reaching the islands
Confirm the departure point, route and included activities with an authorized provider. The crossing time depends on the boat, departure location, weather and stops. Do not assume every product called an island tour has the same itinerary.
Ask what equipment, shade, drinking water, lunch and protected-area charges are included. Check the current applicable access fee and any eligibility rules rather than relying on an old fixed peso amount.
Sea lions and seasonal access

Los Islotes is known for its sea-lion colony. CONANP describes swimming and diving access outside the summer breeding restriction, with June–August restrictions used to protect animals and visitors. Confirm the current rule for your travel date. Seeing the colony from a boat and being allowed into the water are different activities.
Follow the guide’s instructions, keep the required distance and never feed or touch wildlife. Sightings are not guaranteed, and a tour should not promise unrestricted swimming with sea lions throughout the year.
Beaches, snorkeling and other activities

Selected bays can offer beach stops, snorkeling, diving, kayaking or paddleboarding when conditions and the operator’s authorization permit. Match the activity to your ability and ask where you would enter and leave the water. A remote beach does not automatically have lifeguards, toilets or a safe swimming area.

Keep food and waste secure, avoid disturbing nesting birds and stay on permitted walking routes. Respect any fishing restrictions and do not remove shells, plants, rocks or other natural material.
Overnight trips
Camping requires suitable arrangements through an authorized provider and permitted locations. Confirm water, shelter, toilets, waste handling and the plan if sea conditions change. It is different from arriving on a day boat and deciding to stay independently.
Prepare for the day
- Confirm the operator, meeting point, fees and actual route.
- Bring sun protection, suitable clothing and any personal necessities.
- Discuss swimming ability and equipment before entering the water.
- Leave room for weather changes and a delayed return.
- Take all waste back and follow protected-area instructions.
The UNESCO property record provides the wider conservation context. For current visitor arrangements, consult the CONANP park information and your authorized provider.
