Lovers and Divorce Beach Cabo

Lovers and Divorce Beach Cabo

Lovers Beach and Divorce Beach sit on opposite sides of the narrow Land’s End area in Cabo San Lucas. Lovers Beach faces Cabo Bay and the Sea of Cortez. Divorce Beach faces the Pacific, where the surf and exposure are very different.

For the main destination overview, see our Lovers Beach guide. This comparison explains what changes as you cross from one side to the other.

Lovers Beach: The Bay-Facing Side

Lovers Beach – protected by massive rock formations

Playa del Amor offers views across Cabo San Lucas Bay and a beach framed by massive rock formations. Visitors come to relax on the sand, take photographs and, when conditions permit, swim or snorkel.

The setting feels removed from town, although it can be busy when tour boats arrive. Shelter is relative: check conditions rather than assuming that calm-looking water is suitable for everyone.

Read our swimming guidance for Lovers Beach before entering the water.

Divorce Beach: The Pacific Side

Divorce Beach has a broader, open-ocean atmosphere, with powerful waves and dramatic coastal views. It is a place to appreciate the Pacific from a safe distance, rather than a swimming beach.

Do not enter the surf or wade in for a photograph. Stay well back from breaking waves, and follow any closure or access restrictions. Conditions may make even a beach stroll inappropriate.

Why the Names Are So Different

A local explanation links Lovers Beach with a “kiss” between the two seas when storm water crosses the narrow land. Divorce Beach’s contrasting name is often associated with the rougher Pacific side.

These are local stories that add character to the visit, rather than a documented naming history. Playa del Amor literally means Love Beach, and the pairing of the names makes the contrast easy to remember.

Can You Walk Between the Beaches?

When access is open, the sandy connection makes it possible to cross between the two sides. That short beach walk is different from walking to the area from downtown Cabo or scrambling along the coastline.

Ask about current restrictions before crossing. Do not use the connection to approach the sand beneath El Arco or climb the surrounding formations.

Arriving and Returning by Boat

Water taxis normally approach from the bay-facing side. Confirm whether landing is available and arrange the return pickup before getting off.

Our water-taxi guide explains boarding and return arrangements. Do not assume a sightseeing tour that passes both beaches will land at either.

The existing visitor footage gives a sense of the boat approach and coastal scenery. It records one visit, not the conditions or permissions for your travel date.

What to Bring to Either Beach

Bring drinking water, sun protection, footwear for hot sand and the supplies you need. Plan for limited facilities rather than expecting restaurants or restrooms on arrival.

Keep your belongings manageable for boat boarding and take your rubbish away. Enjoy the scenery without approaching wildlife, climbing rocks or testing the force of the Pacific.
