Médano Beach: location, access and swimming
Médano Beach, or Playa El Médano, runs along Cabo San Lucas Bay near the town center and marina. Its combination of swimming areas, waterfront restaurants and water-sports activity makes it one of Cabo’s busiest beach choices. Land’s End forms the rocky backdrop across the bay.
For the wider comparison of beach settings, see the Cabo swimmable-beaches overview. Médano is a familiar bathing beach, but the conditions and permitted swimming area still need checking when you arrive.
Where Médano is and how to arrive
The beach is on the town side of the bay, with access from several points in Cabo San Lucas. Your walk from a hotel, downtown or the marina depends on which part of the beach you choose. Ask for the nearest public beach access rather than assuming that a hotel lobby, restaurant terrace or private facility is a through-route.
If arriving by taxi, agree on a useful drop-off point and arrange how you will return. Leave room for traffic and a walk over sand. Visitors with mobility needs should confirm the surface and available assistance for the particular access point, since one accessible entrance does not describe the entire beach.
A view of the beach
The retained video provides a view of Médano’s setting. It is not a report of current swimming conditions or confirmation that a particular business or activity is operating today.
Swimming and the busy bay
Look for the marked bathing area, read the warning flag and follow the lifeguard’s instructions. Keep clear of water-taxi approaches, boat launches and motorized water sports. Conditions and traffic can vary along the shoreline, so a quiet stretch should not be assumed to be supervised.
Families should stay close to children in the water. Neither the beach’s reputation nor the presence of a tower is a promise of constant lifeguard coverage. Stay on shore if the water is unsuitable for your group, and leave the sea when instructed.

Beach bars, food and a place on the sand
Médano has a lively mix of restaurants, beach clubs and vendors. You can make it a social beach day or look for a quieter place to sit, with the understanding that music, crowds and passing activity are part of its character. Shade, loungers and service offered by a business may have separate purchase or minimum-spend terms.
Our Médano activities, beach clubs and dining guide covers that side of the visit, including the difference between a water-sports rental and a boat excursion.
Views across the bay are not a walking route
You can admire Land’s End from Médano, but the landmarks across the bay are separate outing destinations. The Arch is not on Médano Beach, and you cannot simply follow the sand from here to Lovers Beach. Do not try to swim across boat routes to reach the rocks.

If arranging a water taxi or sightseeing boat, confirm the route, meeting place, return plan and what happens if conditions prevent a beach landing. Choose an authorized operator and follow crew directions.
What to bring and what to compare
Bring water, sun protection and the essentials you need for time on sand. Keep belongings under your control and check prices before agreeing to rentals, food or services. Expect busier periods around holidays and popular beach hours rather than assuming one season is always quiet.
For a different setting nearer San José del Cabo, consider Palmilla Beach. The choice is between different beach-day experiences, with current conditions determining whether you swim.
